GROWLY NOTES UPDATE FREE
Growly Notes ver 2 is no longer free but is actually much better. The developer clearly put a lot of thought into every aspect of this.įor me there was a learning curve to understand all the capabilities that can be accessed via the tabbed sidebar. The ways of handling formats (e.g., bullet lists, fonts, highlights, special symbols, indentation, ruler, styles) has changed from ver 1. Mostly this meant reading several sections of the extremely well-written docs as opposed to either scanning or ignoring them which is what I usually am able to do. If there were a freeware app that came close to doing all this app does, I would not have upgraded. But, I have looked hard in the past and I really like this app. Incidentally, though this is my primary notes app, I DO use other note-taking apps as well for special purposes. I use Evernote because it can automatically sync with File-This-Fetch for managing financial records.

I use Sidenote for hot short-term items (it is opened by mousing over to the side of the screen), and TextWrangler for coding. But I find Growly Notes the most capable for general purpose notes because it is easy to apply formats and one can drag and drop both text and objects with ease. OK, reading the other comments/reviews, this isn't news: Growly Notes is a great app.
GROWLY NOTES UPDATE MAC
There's one thing I'd like to add: for those who don't like the appearance of the app, it can be customised: in the Preferences, just switch from "fun" to "serious" window layout, and it looks much more like your common mac app. Why isn't Growly Write here on MacUpdate? Seems to be a nice app too… The app itself is very good UI design, rock stable, fast… Seems there is (was) lots of talent at Microsoft – the developer worked 10 years for MS – it says quite a lot about MS management, if they are not able to keep such good developers (and those devs go afterwards mac only development :-) If you don't like the app's icon, just replace it with a clipart of your choice. One last thing: I like it that the developer included an "Uninstall" command in the menu. Very user friendly, so you don't have to hunt down files in hidden folders, as with so many other mac apps, if you want to get rid of the app that said, Growly Notes isn't an "invasive" app at all.Growly Notes is a note-taking app somewhat like Microsoft OneNote. Gather text, images, links and anything else you can think of in free-form pages organized into sections. Organize your information Growly Notes lets you capture everything you’re interested in, all in one place. Organize research projects, trips, to-do lists, or journals. Scrapbook your images, web links, and video clips.
GROWLY NOTES UPDATE PDF
Pages can contain almost anything: formatted text, images, movies, audio clips, PDF files, tables, lists, web and file links, and drawings you create in Notes. There are no rules for where things have to go: put an image beside text, or under it.

Put two snippets of text right next to each other.

Notebooks are organized into sections (the larger tabs on the left in the image above), each of which contains as many pages as you like. All the open notebooks are shown in one window, for easy navigation and quick jumps.Īppearances are (almost) everything With Notes you can change the appearance of everything on the page, from the color and font of text to the background color of the page and whether it has rule lines - even put a picture behind all the notes like a watermark.īut you can also change the look of the Notes program itself! We prefer the colorful tabs shown above, but if you find them distracting you can change the tab colors, remove the tab colors, or just give up on the tabs altogether and use a traditional Mac interface.Ĭreating a notebook is one thing.
